Overview

The Misti volcano 5825 masl located within the national reserve of salt mines and white water is considered one of 10 active or potentially active volcanoes in this part of the Andes; during certain periods, steam and gas emanations increase. It’s necessary to acclimatize well prior to climbing the Misti volcano and from the summit you have a 360° panoramic view. The Misti is characterized by the volcanic sand terrain with lava ash.

Itinerary description

Day 01: Arequipa 2350 masl – Redes de Aguila Base Camp 4800 masl

Our departure from the city of Arequipa by private transport is approximately an hour and a half drive and from where we will leave the mobility at 3400m approximately. From this point we will start our hike uphill until we finally arrive at our campsite called Redes de Aguila (4800m). It is suggested to be in good condition.

Overnight stay at base camp Redes de Águila

Day 02: Base Camp - Misti Volcano Summit 5825 m - Arequipa

We leave camp at approximately 2:00am hiking uphill following a marked path that will take us to the summit and after a few hours of walking we will find snow (depending on the season). Once we put on our climbing equipment we will continue our ascent until we reach the summit. At the top we will have beautiful panoramic views of the volcanic mountain range and the scenic Misti crater. We will return by the same route of ascent until we reach the mobility and later to Arequipa.

Return to Arequipa.
