Overview

Considered one of the best treks in the Cordillera Blanca, located in the department of Ancash, this route crosses the Huascaran National Park with spectacular views of great mountains over 6000 meters like the Alpamayo, Paria, Pisco, and Caraz.

  • Day 07: Moraine Camp - Pisco Summit (5750masl) - Pisco Base Camp
  • Day 08: Base Camp - Llanganuco - Huaraz

Itinerary description

Day 01: Huaraz - Cashapampa - Llamacorral (3760masl)

We will start the morning with a pick up from the hotel with a private bus, then we will go down the road to Huaraz-Caraz towards the north, going through the whole Callejón de Huaylas, passing by the districts of Carhuaz, Yungay, and Caraz. After Caraz we will ascend towards Cashapampa where the donkeys and the muleteer will be waiting for us, who will transfer us up the valley to Llamacorral. During the trip, we will observe between the sides great diversity of native bushes in the banks of the river Santa Cruz.

Day 02: Llamacorral - Jatuncocha - Taullipampa (4250masl)

We will start the day with impressive views up the valley, the trail will take us to the Ichiccocha lagoon and the Jatuncocha lagoon.  Continuing the hike we will reach the Quisuar junction, from here we will continue zigzagging towards the valley of Arhuaycocha which will take us to the Alpamayo viewpoint. From here we can appreciate the Alpamayo, Quitaraju, Artesonraju, Parón and Aguja mountains. Finally, our hike will take us to our second campsite, Taullipampa 4250m.

Day 03: Taullipampa - Punta Union Pass (4750masl) – Cachinapampa (3800masl).

We will start the hike up the valley by a zigzagging trail, observing the imposing Taulliraju in front of us, the hills covered with abundant vegetation make a perfect combination with the mountains, following the trail we will arrive at Paso Punta Union (4750m) we enjoy panoramic views of mountains, blue skies and landscapes then we descend the valley to the final camp, Cachinapampa (3800masl).

Day 04: Cachinapampa - Vaquería - Paccharuri (4100masl).

We will start our day with a hike through the Huaripampa valley, meeting on the way by picturesque villages, where local children will ask for chocolates and candies, continuing with our hike we will arrive at Vaquería, and then we will start the gradual ascent to between bushes and native trees until we arrive at our camp.  This camp reveals a great view of Mount Chopicalqui.

Day 05: Paccharuri - Portachuelo Pass (4770masl) - Yurakcorral (3800masl)

We’ll follow the ascent by the path that will take us to Portachuelo pass (4770m, which normally takes about three hours of walking, in this pass you can enjoy views down the valley of the lakes and snow-capped mountains in the heart of the Andes. Considered the highest peak in Peru (North and South of Huascaran), Huandoys, Pisco, Chacraraju, and so on. From here we will descend our next camp.

Day 06: Yurakcorral - Pisco Base Camp - Moraine Camp (4850masl)

We will start our ascent to the Pisco camp by a very marked path towards the Pisco base camp, we will enjoy the beautiful views of the Huandoys, Chacraraju, Pisco and Chopicalqui peaks, we will select the necessary climbing equipment to take it to the moraine camp from there we will start the ascent to the Pisco peak.

Day 07: Moraine Camp - Pisco Summit (5750masl) - Pisco Base Camp

We will begin the hike at dawn towards the glacier where we will begin with the necessary climbing equipment, then we will ascend the glacier for approximately 5 to 6 hours, reaching the summit. We will enjoy the beautiful 360-degree views of different mountains: Artesonraju, Alpamayo, Caraz, Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Yanapaccha, Chacraraju, Brogui, Huandoys, etc. After a few minutes, we will begin to descend to the Moraine Camp, to dismantle the camp which will then be taken by the auxiliary personnel to the base camp.

Day 08: Base Camp - Llanganuco - Huaraz

We will begin the descent with the help of our muleteers, mules that will transport our luggage to Yurakcorral, place where we will board our bus, which will take us to Huaraz. We will pass by the banks of the Llanganuco lagoons (Orconcocha and Jatuncocha), we will stop if it is necessary, again we will pass by Yungay, arriving finally to the City of Huaraz.
